About this directory

RunningGroups.org is an independent directory of 3,801 running clubs, run crews, and group runs across 51 US states — the free community clubs that meet at the local run store, the brewery crews that reward five miles with a pint, the women's groups and beginner no-drop runs, the trail crews and track nights, the marathon-training groups, and the youth programs teaching the next generation to love it.

It exists to answer one question, and to answer it kindly: where can I find a running group near me — and will I be too slow? The first half is oddly hard. Group runs rarely have a real website; the best ones live on a store's Instagram, a Facebook group, a Strava club, or a Meetup that only surfaces if you know the exact words to search. The second half is the quiet worry that stops most people from ever showing up. So this site does two things: it gathers scattered clubs into one place, and it tells you the thing you actually want to know before you go — is it free, is it beginner-friendly, does it run at all paces or no-drop, what day does it meet, and is the vibe social or competitive.

We're honest about the answer to "am I good enough to join?" — for the vast majority of clubs, yes. Most community group runs are free, welcome all paces, and split into pace groups so nobody gets left behind. Being the slowest person at a no-drop run is genuinely a non-issue; the whole system is built so it can't leave you stranded. That reassurance is the reason this directory exists, not an afterthought.

Listings are compiled from public map and business data, then filtered to genuine running clubs and group runs — not gyms, shoe shops, or unrelated "track" businesses that happen to share a word. On top of the listings, we read each club's own website and social pages and real runners' reviews to tag the things that decide fit: whether it's free or a paid coached program, beginner-friendly, all-paces / no-drop, women's, social or brewery, trail, track / speed-work, marathon-training, or youth, plus which national network it belongs to — RRCA, parkrun, November Project, Moms RUN This Town, Girls on the Run, Front Runners, and more. We re-check on a rolling basis to catch clubs that move, change days, or wind down.

Our "best of" rankings are computed from Google ratings weighted by review volume — no club can pay for a placement or a rank. Because clubs are run by volunteers and details drift, we present every flag as our best read of the evidence, not a guarantee: meeting spots move, paces shift with who shows up, and some clubs live only on Facebook, Meetup, or Strava. A quick message to a club before your first run is always worth it — and it's the friendliest way to break the ice anyway.

We are not affiliated with any club, store, brewery, or network listed. If you run a club and want it added, corrected, or removed, email hello@runninggroups.org — see the contact page for exactly what to send — and we'll update it in the next refresh. It's free; clubs can't pay to be listed or ranked.
